Cards for Comfort

When a church family is hurting, a card says what words sometimes can’t: you are not alone, and someone is thinking of you.

We donate handcrafted sympathy and get-well cards, free of charge, to local churches so they can reach members who are sick, homebound, or grieving.

Why We Do This

In moments of despair, a small gesture can carry a lot of weight.

Every congregation has members who are in the hospital, recovering at home, or mourning someone they love. Pastors and ministry volunteers want to reach out to each of them, but they don’t always have the time, or the cards, to do it.

Happy is Handmade makes cards that are meant to be kept. Cards for Comfort puts them in the hands of the people already doing the caring, so a family in a hard season opens their mailbox and finds proof that their community sees them. A few seconds of smiling, a moment away from the worry. That’s the whole point.

How It Works

Four simple steps

  1. 1

    Your church applies

Fill out the short application below. Tell us about your congregation and the person who will manage the cards.

  2. 2

    We review & welcome you

Our team reviews each application and reaches out within about a week to confirm and answer questions.

  3. 3

    Cards arrive at your church

We send a starter supply of sympathy and get-well cards, handcrafted and ready to sign.

  4. 4

    You share the comfort

When a member is sick, shut-in, or grieving, your team signs a card and sends or delivers it. Need more? Just request a refill.

Program Requirements

Who can join

We keep it simple. The goal is to get cards to the people who need them, not to create paperwork.

  • A local church or ministry. Any denomination welcome. We’re focused on congregations in our local community.
  • An active care ministry. A pastor, deacon, or volunteer team that already visits or contacts members who are sick, shut-in, or bereaved.
  • One designated point of contact. Someone who receives the cards, keeps track of them, and answers our occasional check-ins.
  • Cards are used for care, not resale. Cards are donated to bring comfort to members and their families, and may not be sold or used for fundraising.
  • A shipping address. Your church office or another address where a package can be received.
  • Share a story (optional). We’d love to hear how the cards helped. Never anything identifying, and always with permission.

Questions

Good to know

Is this really free?

Yes. There is no fee for the cards or for shipping to approved churches. Cards for Comfort is funded by Happy is Handmade as part of our commitment to the community.

How many cards will we receive?

Starter quantities are based on congregation size and available supply. We’ll confirm your allotment when we approve your application, and you can request a refill as you use them.

Do you only work with churches?

We’re starting with churches because they’re often the first to know when someone is hurting. If you lead a hospital ministry, nursing home chaplaincy, or other community group, reach out and tell us about it.

Can we choose the card designs?

We’ll select a mix of sympathy, get-well, and thinking-of-you designs. If your church has a preference, note it on your application and we’ll do our best.

Can I donate or sponsor cards?

We’d love that. Email support@happyishandmade.com and we’ll share how you can help put more cards in more hands.

A card won’t fix everything. But it can make someone’s day a little lighter.
